Omega K9 Security Dogs Services

The main use of security dogs is that they serve as an aid for more thorough and effective patrolling, by using their sense of smell and hearing to detect the presence of strangers.  The dogs are also used as an effective and general deterrent against intrusion.  The following overview illustrates Omega’s competence of providing K9 services:

Zambia

The dog section started on 1 September 2012 at Kalumbila mine.  It is well developed kennels that can house 35 dogs and a section that can accommodate 15 puppies.  The kennel section is equipped with a small medical facility for the dogs and a fridge for keeping the medicine safe.

The dogs’ dipping bath has cold and hot running water.  The dogs are groomed and fed after the morning training session, then left to rest for their deployment at night. There are guard dogs (Rottweiler, German Shepard & Boerboel) and tracking dogs (Belgian Malinois).

The section comprises of 40 x trained Handlers, 1 x Kennel Master and 1 x Assistant Kennel Master. The dogs are deployed via a dog trailer that is supported by vehicles.

Mozambique

K9 Unit

Arkhê Risk Solutions started a Pioneer K-9 project in October 2014 in Nacala at the Vale project utilising security dogs to stop the high increase of criminality at the Vale/CLN project in the Nacala Coal terminal with 9 x dogs supplied by one of the best South African dog breeders.

This project has included the training of 1 x Kennel Master and 18 x Dog Handlers.  It is important to note that the quantity of attacks on posts with Patrol/Attack dogs has reduced from several a night to zero. The results were so positive that Vale/CLN has requested Arkhê to expand the K-9 unit with 10 more dogs.

The size of the land was 123 hectares next to the Congo river on the Kwanda Island. Due to the heat the dogs could only work for short periods of time and therefor each dog handler had two dogs.  The dogs rested in air-conditioned containers close to the area where they worked.
